An exceptionally rare antique Danish religious text, "Ny Samling af Prædikener" (New Collection of Sermons), First Part, by C. J. Bone. Printed in 1853 in Helsingør (Elsinore), Denmark by W. Grüner & Co., this volume represents mid-19th century Danish Lutheran religious literature and offers a fascinating glimpse into Scandinavian ecclesiastical history. The book is written in Danish and contains a collection of sermons intended for devotional reading and church study.
The volume retains its original embossed cloth boards with a leather spine decorated with gilt ornamentation. Inside, the pages show the expected toning and wear of a book that has been in use for more than 170 years.
One of the most interesting aspects of this copy is the handwritten family record found on the front pages. Written in Danish, the inscription documents several family events including births, baptisms, and deaths recorded between the mid-1800s and 1880. Names such as Alfa Natalie Giese and other members of the Giese family appear in the notes, suggesting the book served as a small family record alongside its religious purpose.
These handwritten entries provide a glimpse into the life of the book’s original owners and add meaningful provenance, turning the volume into both a religious text and a personal historical artifact.
This piece would make a wonderful addition to a vintage library, genealogy collection, or a dark-academia inspired display.
