Vintage Dutch round tin box — a large, beautifully decorated mid-century confectionery or biscuit tin stamped "Made in Holland" on the base, likely 1940s–1960s. This is the kind of piece that earns a permanent spot on a shelf rather than a drawer.
The lid is a showstopper: a black medallion center showcasing a lush hand-illustrated bouquet of pink and white peonies, ringed by an extraordinarily intricate mosaic-style geometric border in cobalt blue, red, green, yellow, and gold. The pattern draws from Byzantine and Moorish decorative traditions — dense, jewel-toned, and endlessly detailed. The sides of the box continue the mosaic pattern in a complementary band, making the whole piece feel like a unified work of decorative art.
The interior features a hammered gold-tone lid and a warm gold base with a faint embossed maker’s mark — a lovely surprise when opened.
