A piece of American naval history rendered in English pewter — this vintage commemorative tankard was made in honor of the USS Brownson (DD-868), a Gearing-class destroyer commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned in 1976. The cylindrical pewter body rises from a stepped pedestal base and is fitted with a squared D-handle and a clear bottom. At the center, a cast applied crest medallion bears the ship’s name, hull number, and motto "Virtue et Audacia" (Virtue and Boldness), surrounded by a laurel wreath with an eagle above and a lion at center. Stamped "English Pewter / Made in Sheffield, England" on the base — Sheffield being the historic heart of British pewter and silversmithing. A compelling piece for naval history collectors, destroyer veterans, or anyone drawn to the weight and gravitas of military memorabilia.
