A wonderful matched pair of vintage cast iron horse-drawn stagecoach bookends — and a rare find with a confirmed maker’s mark. The back of one piece bears the cast mark "HUBLEY 379", attributable to the Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, one of America’s most celebrated and collectible cast iron foundries, known for producing decorative figures, doorstops, and bookends from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century.
Each piece depicts a top-hatted coachman driving a two-horse team pulling an ornate enclosed carriage, complete with spoked wheels, detailed coach body panels, and a textured ground base. The pair presents beautifully together giving the set a striking visual contrast that works equally well as bookends or as a pair of decorative doorstops.
