A beautiful and highly collectible vintage Hull Pottery Madonna planter, marked Hull USA #25 on the unglazed base — one of Hull's most beloved and sought-after mid-century figurine forms. Produced by the Hull Pottery Company of Crooksville, Ohio in the late 1940s to early 1950s, this kneeling Virgin Mary figure is rendered in Hull's signature creamy ivory matte glaze with hand-painted details: rich auburn hair with rose accents, delicately painted closed eyes with long lashes, and softly folded praying hands. The flowing veil and robes are sculpted with graceful, rounded curves that give the figure a serene, almost Art Deco softness.
The back of the figure opens into a rectangular planter well — perfect for a small succulent, air plant, or trailing ivy — making this as functional as it is beautiful. A wonderful piece for collectors of Hull Pottery, American art pottery, mid-century religious decor, or anyone who appreciates the quiet craftsmanship of postwar American ceramics.
