Silent butlers were a staple of the well-appointed home, used to sweep crumbs from the table or collect ash from ashtrays with quiet, unobtrusive elegance. This example features a hinged brass box with a four-sided pyramid lid that opens, and a turned ebonized wood handle mounted on a brass ferrule. The whole piece is richly patinated, warm, and heavy in the hand. Stamped "Unionair USA / 205 B" on the base. A wonderful bar cart or sideboard accent.
